BJS Portrait Art

About This Art

All of the portraits were done from life. None was from a photo.

Pastels are a visual art medium made of powdered pigment combined with a binder and shaped into a stick or pencil.

Charcoals for art are dry drawing tools made from heated wood that create rich, deep black marks and expressive shading.

Contés for art are Conté crayons which are square drawing sticks made from compressed pigment or graphite mixed with a clay binder, invented in France in 1795.

Pencil sketches were created with various types of art pencils, specialized drawing tools made of graphite and clay used for sketching, fine detail work, and rich shading.
